These may occur during the school year or during the summer. Please take a moment to look in the student opportunities file in the guidance office if you are interested in this type of experience. College Planning Notes: Do colleges look at social networking sites as part of the admissions process?? You might be surprised to hear that some do so think twice before you post something on FACEBOOK that might be misconstrued by a stranger surfing your site. This article provides some interesting facts. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122170459104151023.html Common Application users: Please make sure that you are inviting your counselor and teachers to recommend you online. As we have discussed, we will be uploading all recommendations and transcripts directly to all Common application schools this again this year. Make sure you have spelled your teachers names correctly when doing so to avoid complications. If you have not yet checked out the Common application website, it is worth a serious look! Test Scores, Official Reporting: Mt Abraham seniors are responsible for reporting their ACT and SAT scores directly to the colleges. As you plan for this, remember that you may send reports to up to four colleges as part of your registration fee. If you wait until after you receive your score report, the testing service will charge you for each report sent. Attention Seniors and Parents: The School counseling office is now giving out copies of the VSAC Scholarship Booklet. The Mt. Abraham scholarship packet will be released in early April. We encourage all college bound seniors to pick up a copy of this application packet. Now is certainly the time to research and apply for scholarships. College admissions/financial aid offices can offer you guidance on how private scholarship money is treated in relation to financial aid awards. It may be worth calling to find out how the colleges of your choice address private scholarship monies. Contact the School counseling office if you need further information. Juniors: Juniors are encouraged to continue to do their best in their classes and maintain a challenging course load. See your counselor if you want to make some additions to your second semester schedule. Any research you do on post-secondary options at this point will be very valuable in determining where you may apply to college next fall. Try the comprehensive Vermont Guidance Central website which incorporates career, college, and scholarship information. Use the links to other useful websites at the bottom of this page to find more resources. Do not hesitate to stop by or make an appointment to discuss your college candidacy! Parents should contact counselors at any time with questions, or if you would like to arrange a meeting about any or all aspects of college planning. Counselors will meet with juniors in the spring semester to discuss post-secondary planning. Sophomores: PLAN results and transcripts have been distributed. If you did not get them, see your counselor. Please share these results with your parents. If you have additional questions, please see your counselor! Upcoming College Visits -
