ATTENTION SENIORS AND PARENTS!! The VSAC Scholarship booklet is now available in the guidance office. This publication lists scholarships available to Vermont students. There are many awards with varying deadlines. Please take a moment to stop in and pick up a copy. Other scholarship opportunities which we have been made aware of are listed below. The local scholarship application packet will be available in early April.

 

NOTE: New scholarship listings are noted. All scholarships are listed in order of deadline date from none noted to most distant. Scholarships will remain on the list once deadlines have passed.


-Coca Cola Scholars Program: The Coca Cola Scholars Foundation is awarding $3 million dollars in scholarships to high school seniors who demonstrate leadership, commitment to community, and academic achievement. -Elks National Foundation Scholarships: The Elks offer several scholarships for high school seniors. Visit www.elks.org/enf/scholars for details of their programs. Deadlines vary by program.

 

-SADD, Inc. (Students against Destructive Decisions) is proud to make available up to four scholarships, each in the amount of $500, to students enrolled or committed to enroll full-time in an accredited 2-year or 4-year college and who demonstrate a commitment to SADD’s mission. The scholarships will be awarded on merit and may be paid either to the school or directly to the applicant.  Go to www.sadd.org for more information about this opportunity.

 

-Give US Your Poor College Scholarship for Homeless and At-Risk Students: Give US Your Poor is proud to partner with the Horatio Alger Association in offering college scholarships to homeless, formerly homeless, and at-risk students. The Horatio Alger Association provides approximately 1,000 scholarships each year to eligible students who have overcome adversity in their lives. -Vermont Grocer's Association Scholarship Program: Available to all Vermont Grocer's Retail and Associate members who have student employees or employees having a child attending college for the first time in 2012. -NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award: Qualified candidates must be operating a small business and be a graduating senior. Visit www.NFIB.com/YEA for more information.

-EXPIRED Horatio Alger Association Scholarship: (Deadline October 30, 2011) This scholarship program provides financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. -EXPIRED Prudential Spirit of Community Awards: (Deadline November 1, 2011) If you have made a difference through volunteering in your community in the past year, you could win $1000.00 and a trip to Washington DC next spring. View the online application form at www.nassp.org/spirit

 

-EXPIRED The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (Deadline November 5, 2011) is pleased to announce it's fourth annual "Freedom in Academia" student essay contest. Students could win up to $5000 in college scholarship money. To enter visit www.thefire.org/contests

 

-EXPIRED Sustainable Agriculture Scholarships: (Deadline December 15, 2011) Annie's Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship Program is open to full time undergraduate and graduate students beginning or returning to an accredited 2 or 4 year college program, or graduate school in the U.S. for the 2012/2013 school year. Students must be focusing on classes in sustainable agriculture. International students may apply as long as they are studying at a U.S. school. -EXPIRED Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship: (Deadline February 1, 2012) Presented by Hood Milk, the Hood Sportsmanship Scholarship will award three $5000 scholarships to students in each of the New England states. Criteria include status as a high school senior, participation in a varsity sport, plan on attending a two or four year accredited college, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and performed volunteer work in the community. -EXPIRED Vermont NEA Maida Townsend Scholarship: (Deadline February 1, 2012) Awarded to sons and daughters of Vermont NEA members. Available to high school seniors as well as undergraduate and graduate college students. Awards based on merit, not financial need. Payment made directly to student. -EXPIREDAsthma and Allergy Foundation of America Scholarship Competition: (Deadline February 29, 2012) Eligible students who live in the New England states who have dealt with Asthma and allergies and are planning to go to college may compete for an award. -EXPIREDAlice Agney Scholarship for Leadership and Service: (Deadline March 23, 2012) A $1000.00 scholarship to a graduating senior who is selected based on the student's leadership and service to community, academic achievement, and initiative in overcoming a specific challenge. -EXPIREDSt. Albans Cooperative Creamery Scholarship: (Deadline March 30, 2012) One $500.00 scholarship to a member of a St. Albans Co-op farm family or a St. Albans Co-op farm member employee. -EXPIREDUniversity Mall Scholarship of Excellence: (Deadline March 30, 2012) Each year University Mall awards $25,000 to five area high school seniors. Each student receives $5,000 toward their first year of college. -EXPIREDAddison County Firefighters Association Scholarship: (Deadline April 1, 2012) For students in Addison County planning on attending college. Applicants must either plan on a career in the fire service, fire protection or prevention, or be the son or daughter of an ACFA firefighter who has at least five years of service or became disabled or died in the line of duty. Applications available in the guidance office.

 

-EXPIREDAmerican Legion Scholarships Program: (Deadline April 1, 2012) The American Legion offers several scholarship programs including the Charles Barber Scholarship, the Ray Greenwood Scholarship, and the Oratorical Contest. Applications and information can be found at the Vermont Legion Website.

 

-EXPIREDVermont Federal Crdit Union Scholarship: (Deadline April 6, 2012) four $2,000.00 scholarships will be awarded to students that are Vermont Federal Credit Union members. -EXPIREDSons of the American Legion Dennis Comai Scholarship: (Deadline April 15, 2012) For students who are applying to attend a trade or technical school and who have a relative who is a member of the American Legion Family. Paper applications available in the guidance office

 

-EXPIREDBuster Brush Memorial Scholarship: (Deadline April 16, 2012) A $1000.00 scholarship in memory of the late Buster Brush. Students should demonstrate compassion, a strong work ethic, school spirit, leadership, community service and a desire to challenge ones self. -CURRENTGreen Mountain Athletic Association Scholarship: (Deadline April 27, 2012) Requirements: Student has been accepted at an accredited two or four year college, has participated in cross country running and/or track events in grades 11 and 12, has maintained a B average in high school, and shows qualities of good citizenship and sportsmanship. -CURRENTNew England Feceral Credit Union S.T.E.M Scholarship Program: (Deadline April 30, 2012) For NEFCU members who are pursuing a degree in the field of Science, Math and/or Technology. -CURRENT Scholarship from Heritage Family Credit Union: (Deadline April 30, 2012) A total of four (4) scholarships of $1,000 each open to all seniors attending a High School in the Heritage Family Credit Union field of membership. Visit www.hfcuvt.com/ for an application and instructions.

 

-CURRENTWinona Smith Scholarship: (Deadline April 30, 2012) A Winona Smith Scholarship grant for $500.00 will be awarded to a male or female student in his or her senior year of high school who has demonstrated an interest in civic participation and community service, who has a need for financial aid, and, who is recommended by a teacher. Applications may be requested by e-mail to sgg7@comcast.net

-CURRENT Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund: (Deadline May 1, 2012) Offering four year renewable scholarships to students with financial need from New England who display academic excellence, a demonstrated sense of service to those around them, good character, and a strong work ethic. -CURRENT Addison County eagles Auxiliary Scholarship: (Deadline May 4, 2012) A $500.00 scholarship available to all students. -CURRENTAmy Bindleglass Memorial Scholarship: (Deadline May 4, 2012) An essay contest offering one $500 and one $200 scholarship for juniors or seniors. Essay topic deals with organ donation. More information can be found in the guidance office.

 

-CURRENT Lyric Theatre Company Scholarship: (Deadline May 4, 2012) A $1,000 scholarship to an area high school senior to help support their interest in pursuing an education in the performing arts.
