Graphic Design and Communiaction |

This course is an exploration of the visual culture we are all a part of. Graphic designers use text and images to communicate in the areas of advertising, visual identity, typography, package and poster design. Students will analyze and critique existing design examples and apply the principles and elements of design to specific design problems, which will include brochures, posters, CD covers, logo designs and product packaging. The class will be conducted like a professional design studio. Students will learn to bridge the gap between their own artistic skills and the interests of the “customer” or audience. Students will understand that listening to the client/audience is vital to the success of the end product. Personal style may have to take a back seat to the needs of the client. Every project will require preliminary pencil sketches. Students will acquire skills with Photoshop, scanners, printers and digital cameras. Selected works will be shown at the Fine Arts Festival.
