PUBLIC
HIGH SCHOOL CHOICE
MT.
ABRAHAM UNION HIGH SCHOOL HAS JOINED
VERGENNES
UNION HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLEBURY UNION HIGH SCHOOL
TO
FORM A REGIONAL PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL CHOICE PARTNERSHIP
Students
of Mt. Abraham Union High School District #28 (residents of Bristol, Lincoln,
Monkton, New Haven or Starksboro) may make application for potential
enrollment slots at Middlebury or Vergennes Union High Schools.
In
Year 4 of the program the number of potential slots is 10 per receiving
and sending schools. However, the
number of available slots depends on the number of eligible students
selected in the first 3 years who elect to continue enrollment in the school
of their choice. IF YOU WOULD
LIKE TO ATTEND
VERGENNES
UNION HIGH SCHOOL OR MIDDLEBURY UNION HIGH SCHOOL
FOR THE 2005 - 2006 SCHOOL YEAR (GRADES 9 - 12)
AND
WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN A LOTTERY TO SELECT INDIVIDUALS
YOU
MUST:
Complete an application available from the high school (453-2333) or the Superintendent’s Office (453-3657).
Obtain your parent/guardian’s signature.
File the application with the Superintendent’s Office by March 1, 2005.
Final
selection is scheduled for April with notification by May 1st.
Additional
information about school choice including a time line, as well as the
partnership agreement describing the procedures and conditions for application
and enrollment, are available from the Superintendent’s Office.
A
student’s enrollment application may be denied by a receiving school if the
student has been expelled or received an extended suspension for violation of
Mt. Abraham’s alcohol, substance abuse, or weapons-in-schools policies during
the year prior to enrollment in that regional partnership school. Upon enrollment in the receiving school, students are subject
to the disciplinary policies and procedures of the that school.
If
selected to attend another high school in the regional partnership, students
shall be guaranteed enrollment in that receiving high school until graduation as
long as they remain residents of a Mt. Abraham Union High School town district
and are not subject to expulsion as a result of the receiving school’s policy
and federal and state law.
